PT Bintan Alumina Indonesia recently received further good news: the first cargo ship, fully loaded with 30,000 tons of alumina, departed from its newly constructed 70,000-tonne terminal. This marks the official start of operations at the terminal and a significant and crucial step forward for the company in expanding its production capacity and enhancing its material handling capabilities.

The 450-meter-long, 28-meter-wide jetty is designed to handle 12 million tonnes per year. It features one 70,000-tonne bulk berth and one 35,000-tonne bulk berth, equipped with two 1,500-tonne-per-hour ship unloaders, two 40-tonne-per-meter cranes with hoppers, one 1,500-tonne-per-hour ship unloader, and a supporting belt conveyor system. Three approach bridges connect the landside area with a steel corridor, which houses a waiting building, a substation, a transfer station, and associated water and power installations. The jetty ensures the efficient transportation of bulk materials such as alumina, caustic soda, bauxite, and coal.

For alumina shipments, the advanced pipeline corridor method eliminates the dust problem common during traditional loading and unloading, significantly reducing pollutant generation. Furthermore, a comprehensive monitoring system and safety protection facilities provide strong assurance for logistics and transportation safety.

This terminal is a key component of the company's strategic planning. The planning fully considers the growing demand for alumina production capacity and long-term logistics support. During construction, the project team faced various challenges, including complex geological conditions and fluctuating marine climates. However, by utilizing advanced engineering technology and management models, they held numerous specialized seminars and, through simulation experiments and data analysis, repeatedly validated the optimal construction plan. Finally, they independently developed a new construction method for dismantling, storing, and filling steel pipe piles, suitable for high-stack terminals. This innovative method not only significantly improved construction efficiency but also reduced costs, thereby ensuring the stability of the terminal's foundation structure.
